Memorial: Robert F. Goheen '40

Hello Quad Alumni –

As many of you may have already learned, Princeton’s President Emeritus, Robert F. Goheen ’40 passed away on March 31, 2008. He was truly one of the University’s great presidents, leading during a time of national upheaval in the 1960s and 1970s, and diversifying the student body and the faculty through coeducation and the admittance of ethnic minorities.

What some of you may not realize is that President Goheen was also a member of the Princeton Quadrangle Club during his undergraduate years. Quad is honored to have him in its alumni body and recognizes he will be missed dearly.

All are welcome to attend an upcoming service of remembrance and celebration for President Goheen at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2008, in the University Chapel. All Quad alumni are also welcome back to the Club immediately following the service, for coffee, tea, and light refreshments.

To view a short video and to read more about the life and accomplishments of President Goheen, please visit this University site.

Finally, we are also interested in gathering fond memories of President Goheen, to present the Goheen family. If you have any special thoughts, stories, etc. regarding the late great Princeton President, please send them to Jessica Walter ’01 at jwalter@princeton.edu.

As just an example of the type of alumni event that can be held at the club, my company had its Holiday Party at Quad - pictures below!

Unveiling of Portrait of Herb Davis, '49

Member of the Board from 1960 - 2005, Treasurer from 1962 - 1985, and Chairman from 1994 - 2000, Herb Davis is a man who epitomises the Princeton Quadrangle Club and all it stands for. In recognition of his 45 years of service to the Club, a portrait in his honor was commissioned and installed in the club on February 26, 2005.

Alumni Events - 2005

Quad hosts many alumni events throughout the year. Recently, Mo Chen '80 contacted us about the possibility of hosting her daughter Patty's "Sweet 16" party at the club. Plans were made, a bevy of 16 year old girls came, and a great time was had by all. Here's a picture of birthday girl Patty with Neville, our club Chef:

Last summer, Quad hosted several wedding events for club alumni. Here are some pictures from those events:

Reunions 2004

Reunions 2004 offered another great chance for alumni to get together and reminisce. Here are some alumni sumbitted pictures from the festivities:

Memorial: Ed Knetzger '46

The Quadrangle family is saddened to report the passing of Ed Knetzger '46.

Ed has been a great friend to Quad throughtout the years, working with several generations of club Chairmen to ensure that Quad remained strong. Charlton Price '48 wrote me with the following great note about Ed:

I hope Ed '46 has been or will be specially honored by the club. An all-time great leader of Quad and friend to all who knew him through Quad. I am particularly indebted to him because he shoe-horned me into the club when I was falling by the wayside in the Big Bad Bicker of Spring, 1948. Without Ed, I wouldn't be viewing gratefully and daily the famous club print that hangs here by my PC in KC, and memories of my Princeton would be much poorer.

We mourn Ed's passing and offer our condolences to his family and friends.

2004 Events - Prospect Avenue Street Fair

In 2004, Quad and most other eating clubs sponsored the Prospect Avenue Street Fair. Here are some pictures of community turnout at the event:

2004 Events - George Clinton

Quad was lucky enough to sponsor and be a part of several campus-wide events in the 2003-2004 year. Here are some pictures from the USG Concert held at Quad, featuring George Clinton and P-Funk:

Reunions 2003

The excitement of Reunions 2003 and the following Graduation ceremonies are just now fading from the Princeton landscape. Even though the sprinkling rain never quite left us alone, it was our pleasure to host so many alumni, graduating seniors, and their families at the club - your club.

I was fortunate enough to take a few pictures, and even a few small movies, to capture the host of smiling faces in the club. Enjoy!

Ricardo, Giovanni, and Donte (l-r) help prepare for the afternoon BBQ.

10th reunion celebrants enjoy some light refreshment.

...and so is the other half.

As an added bonus, here is a short movie clip (3.8 MB) showing the sights and sounds of the full dining room.

Pete Cioni '04 tends bar for alumni, while current Vice-President Tony Sun '04 supervises.

Former undergraduate presidents Chris Kinnan '94 and Dave Walton '93 reminisce about the parties they had here in the taproom...

...while others enjoy the view from the solarium.

Memorial: Hugh Petersen '40

The Quadrangle family is saddened to report the passing of Hugh Petersen '40.

Hugh was one of, if not the greatest benefactor to the club over the past several decades. His loss will be deeply felt, and we offer our condolences to his family and friends.

Class Agents

As mentioned in recent mailings, we are looking for Class Agents for each class section. So far, we’ve focused on the classes with major reunions this year, but soon enough there will be a push to get a representative from each class. This is a great opportunity to get back in touch with clubmates you’ve drifted away from, and as an added bonus you’ll always be "in the loop" on our club events.

Let us know if you’re interested in being a Class Agent for your class, and a member of our Alumni Relations Committee will be in touch to discuss our goals and the tools we’d be happy to provide you.
